DIY Bridal Shower Decorations

Updated on October 1, 2014

Save Some Green Make Your Own Decorations

If you are planning a bridal shower for a friend you are likely overwhelmed by all the details that go into throwing a bridal shower, not to mention, the cost of throwing a stylish party the bride will love. I recently helped out a friend who was throwing a shower and we did a lot of DIY projects for the bridal shower, which helped with party costs, making the occasion more unique and creative.

I have highlighted a few decorating ideas that are easy to accomplish and add to your party décor. Browse the selections below and feel free to share your decorating ideas for others in the comment section at the end of the page.

Quick Easy Shower Centerpiece

If you are making decorations for the bridal shower you are throwing you will have a big job a head of you. You will need to create some centerpieces that are inexpensive, but look great, and do not take a long time to assemble (especially, if you have a lot of centerpieces to complete). The centerpiece to the right was easy to create and only cost under $4.

All of the pieces used to create this bridal shower centerpiece were purchased at the local dollar store. One bucket, one artificial flower, one Styrofoam block, and some shredded pink paper were used to create this cute centerpiece. It could easily double to include a table number (if you have a formal seating plan). For a more customized look you can add a label with shower details.

Other centerpiece ideas include a ribbon topiary or fresh flower arrangement in a mason jar. When creating your own centerpiece consider using items in unexpected ways or embellishing a basic piece to make it pop. Paint, brushes, and glue guns help make dazzling makeovers.

Are you ready to DIY?

I like décor that is simple, elegant and does not cost a lot. The best way to accomplish this is to get to work on making your own homemade decorations.

Bridal Shower Decorating Kit

Sometimes you cannot do everything yourself, sometimes you need a little help. While doing your decorations yourself does add the personal touch, sometimes you can get a leg up on your party decorations by combining a few inexpensive store bought decorations.

Crepe & Tissue Paper Dress

This decoration took a lot of time to complete. The initial plan was to cover the Styrofoam dress template I made with tiny kissing rosette buds. I found the instructions on how to make these roses on the Idea Room website. My roses were smaller than the ones that appeared on the page, probably because I wrapped the paper too tight, so it took several of them just to fill the bodice. I was still working on the project the day of the shower so I had to make some last minute changes to complete the decoration. I just glued straight pieces of blue tissue paper to give it a dress look.

If I did this project again I would consider using a tutorial that made larger tissue flowers. That way the project would not be so time consuming.

All you need to complete this project is Styrofoam board or cardboard, tissue paper, streamers and your handy glue gun.

Tissue Paper Pom Pom

I completed this project but I used twist ties for the middle rather than bobby pins - simply because I didn't have any of the pins on hand. People have also used floral wire to tie the center of the project. These flowers are easy and simple to make, not to mention inexpensive. You only need to purchase tissue paper, bobby pins or floral wire. The only tool you need besides your hands are a pair of scissors.

Tissue Paper Decorations

I made about five of these for the display table. I would have loved to hang them, because I think that would have looked even better, but the place we threw the shower didn't allow for hanging decorations. They still looked cute sitting on buckets.

The ones I made were pink, blue and white. I tried both the triangle edge design and the circle edge. Like the woman conducting the tutorial I preferred the circle edge ones. They looked much better completed.

Bridal Shower Decorations - Pinterest

When I was looking for ideas on how to decorate a bridal shower I found tons of ideas from around the web. I collected them on a pinterest board which you can find here, just click the images you like and you will be taken to the original images and instruction pages for creating some of these must have bridal decorations.

The image to the right, is a small piece that was added to guest tables. Just used a small glass container, water, colored stone and a flower.

Cute Cutlery Idea

Even your party utensils can add to your bridal shower décor. Choose a color that works with your theme and display it in a fun container. To display the forks and spoons at the shower we found a mason jar wine glasses to use. We purchased these at our local dollar store. To give the utensil holders a little more pizazz we wrapped a green patterned ribbon around the middle of the mason jar and tied a bow. Instant decoration that helped give the food table a festive look.

Decorate Your Food Table

Use your food display to create a wow factor at the shower you are throwing. Consider putting food items in fun containers and dressing them up. The picture to the right shows a candy dish. Pink yogurt jelly beans are displayed in a fancy glass. The glass is dressed up with a ribbon and a paper flower which gives it a sweet look.

This project is inexpensive and takes a few minutes. All you need is the ribbon, embellishment and a glue gun to adhere the decorations.
