5 Easy Ways to Decorate Your Walls

Updated on April 28, 2013

Inexpensive Wall Art

I recently redecorated my bedroom and during this process I spent a lot of time considering how I was going to dress the walls in my room. I came across a lot of beautiful, yet easy to do, wall art ideas and I thought I would share some of my favorite budget saving ideas.

The picture to the left is of my Venetian mask currently hanging in my purple bedroom.

Create a Picture Wall

Creating a picture wall probably will not reinvent the design wheel but it's a great way to decorate your wall with your own pictures. Get creative, choose different shapes, colors and sizes to decorate your walls. Consider creating a theme around the photos you choose. Travel photos make fun and interesting wall displays. Or perhaps you might choose to focus on family photos to make your wall come alive.

While frames are a nice way to display your photo you could also consider decoupaging them on wall ornaments or displaying them huge magnet boards. Using magnets to display your pictures allows you to change the pictures you display frequently and easily.

Decoupage Letters

I have come across many instances of decoupage letters. They add an elegant touch of whimsy while customizing your space. They had some visual interest to walls as they can be constructed with different patterns and textures.

These dressed up letters are easy to create yourself. All you need is to purchase the letters of your choice from a craft store. Add some Mod Podge to the surface and choose your paper. Make sure that all the wrinkles are worked out of the piece before you seal it with another coat of Mod Podge.

Add a Display Shelf

Put your personal treasures to work and hang a wall shelf to show display your favorite things. You can purchase an inexpensive wall shelf add some paint of decorative brackets to give it a sophisticated look.

Add frames, figurines, art projects, vases - whatever your heart desires - to the shelf to create visual interest. You could even display your books artistically to create a display pleasing to the eye.

A display shelf is a good way to decorate and add storage to your room at the same time.

Found Art that You Love

Consider an item of clothing, a painting or even a mask and turn that into wall art. In my bedroom I have hung a Venetian mask I bought when I was in Venice. It's something I love and adds some visual dimension to my flat walls.

Others have used t shirts and stretched them on canvases. Shoes can even be used in your decor by displaying your favorite pairs in boxes frames on your wall. If you have a scarf collection you could consider framing them and putting them on your wall. A collection of spoons can also be turned into wall art.

Open up your mind and consider what you have at home. What might make a delightful transformation to your walls.

While I prefer to use wall decals in decorating rooms for kids there are a few products that work well for decorating grown up space.

One of the wall decals that I have come across is the family tree wall decal. It covers a huge area on your wall and is a great way to display those family pictures. Add your framed photo to make it the decal really standout.

I also like adding wall quotes in certain locations like behind the bed or dresser or on an accent wall. Choosing words that reflect your personality or inspire you can complete your room design.

I'll Love You Forever Wall Decal Quote

I was tinkled pink when I came across the I'll Love You Forever wall decal. It is a quote from one of my nieces favorite books called Love Your Forever by Robert Munsch. She likes to recite the verse from the book. It will make an cool edition to her bedroom.
